Asian Handicap

If you are looking for a fun and exciting way to bet on soccer, then look no further than the Asian Handicap. An Asian handicap is a type of spread bet that has become quite popular in recent years that is available to soccer bettors. It usually involves half or quarter goals as a way for the handicappers to set the games as close to 50% as possible. What this means is that for any given game, a bettor has pretty close to a coin flip chance of picking the right winner. But it isn’t that easy: Because the games are set so close to what the handicappers feel is a fifty percent chance either way, the payouts will be right around even money as well. An additional feature of the Asian handicap is that you are usually not penalized for a draw. While you won’t win, you won’t lose either as your stake will be returned. There are several different types of Asian Handicap’s, we will cover a few of them below:

0:0 Handicap

In this type of handicap you literally bet on who you think will win the game. No spreads to take into account, nothing, and you just bet on who your gut tells you will win the game. Your payout will depend on the odds the bookmakers are offering.

0:1 Handicap

In this type of handicap one of the two teams playing is being given a one goal advantage at the beginning of the game. Lets say the match is between Liverpool and Manchester, with Liverpool getting the one goal advantage. If you bet on Liverpool and they win the game, then you win your bet. However, if you bet on Manchester, they need to win by at least two goals for you to win your bet. There are some other possible outcomes as well. If you bet on Liverpool and they lose the game by one goal, your stake will be refunded. Similarly if you bet on Liverpool and the game ends in a draw  you will also win  your bet.

¼ Handicap

This type of handicap actually involves special rules about a draw situation. Lets take Liverpool and Manchester again. Now in this situation we will assume Manchester is getting ¼ goal over Liverpool. If you bet on Manchester and they win, then you win your bet. Similarly if you bet on Liverpool and they win, you also win your bet. The tricky part about the ¼ handicap is all about the draw situation. Let’s say that the game ends in a draw. If you bet on Liverpool you will lose half of your stake. If you bet on Manchester and the game ends in a draw then you will win half of your bet. So the ¼ handicap is a good way to bet on games that could be very close.

The bottom line is that Asian Handicapping allows bettors a good way to bet on soccer without having to worry about fully losing their bet if a draw situation happens. Asian Handicapping allows for a multitude of possibilities that can really work out for the astute bettor.
